Eddie Ray Nelson, 77, of Halifax, died Saturday, February 15, 2014.

Eddie, a native of Bladen County, North Carolina, was the son of the late Sam Pete and Myrtice Adams Nelson, and was also preceded in death by his son, Donald Ray Nelson.

Eddie was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was retired from the NC State prison system.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Nelson and her husband, Phillip Howell; his sisters, Doris Shaver and her husband, Hubert, of Clarkton, NC, and Mary Ellen Stanton of Florida; his brother, Thomas Nelson and his wife, Lorraine, of Fayetteville, NC.

A memorial service will held Tuesday, February 17, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating.

Interment will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the White Plains Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clarkton, NC.

The family will receive friends following the services.
